News from the Guidance Department:.

 

  • Ms. Maggie Willis, our ULM recruiter, shared this wonderful ACT Workshop opportunity for our WMHS Juniors and Seniors. This ACT Workshop is a great way for our students to prepare for the upcoming March and April ACT tests. Also, the first 100 students can register for FREE! See more info below:

  • Attention all students taking a dual enrollment course this semester through ULM or LA Tech: It's time to start paying for your DE coursework if you are taking over the allotted amount that Ouachita Parish School Board will pay. As a reminder, OPSB is paying for the following this semester: Seniors- 3 classes, Juniors- 2 classes, Sophomores- 1 class.  If you have an overage, that cost is $150 per course that you are over, and your payment will go to ULM. You may pay by check(making your payment to ULM) and give it to Mrs. Hunt or pay online through your ULM account. If paying by check, write your full name on the memo line. Payments are due by 12:00 Wednesday, February 28. If you have a question about how much you owe, talk to one of your dual enrollment teachers or Mrs. Hunt. As a reminder, if you fail a course or withdraw from a course paid for by OPSB, you will owe OPSB $150 for that course.

  • The AAPPL or Apple test will be held on Thursday. Based on these scores, students can earn high school Spanish credits and qualify for the Louisiana Seal of Biliteracy. Many languages are offered, not just Spanish.The cost of the test is $20. Please see Mrs. Ballance in room 2207 to pick up a registration sheet or get more information. The last day to register is tomorrow.

Sports News: 

 

  • Our boys’ basketball team had an exciting win over number 12 ranked Mandeville to move them to round 2 in the playoffs. Tomorrow night, they travel to Number 5 ranked Natchitoches Central. We hope you will come out and cheer this team on. 

  • Baseball looks to bounce back after the series against Catholic BR. They play Tomorrow at home vs Northwood. Thursday they will be at home vs Bryant And on Friday and Saturday they will be playing in the Trey Altick against John Curtis on Friday, and Hahnville and Destrehan on Saturday. 

  • Softball went 2-1 in the polar bear tournament, bringing home wins against Haughton and Minden. They will play Haughton again tomorrow at home, and on Thursday they will be on the road against Calvary Baptist. This weekend they will be in the Acadiana Tournament: on Friday they will take on Walker, and on Saturday they will play Dominican and Beau Chene.

  • Our Track and Field season is right around the corner, They will start their season at a meet in Benton this week! 

  • The Lady Rebel Powerlifters are your North Regional Champions! They scored 65 points by winning six weight classes. All 11 lifters made it on the podium.  Alora Walker, named Most outstanding lifter, set a state record in squat at 385 pounds and also set the state record for total weight with 920 pounds. Other 1st place finishers were Kamaria Evans, Addyson Caskey, Anexi Roth, Harley Huckabay, and Alyssa Blazier. 2nd place - Haven Wilhite, Lydia Huckabay, Makayla Wilson, Victoria Benard. 3rd place - Caroline Joslin. Congratulations to these ladies!! 

  • In tennis, West Monroe finished second overall in the Bolton Cup. Brayden Ernst in singles and Jack Blake/Connor Armstrong in doubles were semi finalists and Clara Cobb in singles and Carley Ernst/Jennianne Chase were all runners up. They resume action tonight at Benton. And Thursday they will be at home vs Captain Shreve

Club and Organization News:

 

  • This week, February 17th-24th, is National FFA Week!  FFA is the premier youth organization preparing members for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. The West Monroe High FFA is a part of over 900,000 FFA members across the United States. In FFA, you can learn and compete in contest such as: public speaking, carpentry, forestry, meat identification, welding, electricity, nursery landscape, veterinary science, and many other areas. Check out some of the fun ways you can learn and grow.

  • Attention juniors and seniors, in preparation for prom we are asking you to send in your song requests for the DJ.   Around campus you will see green posters with a qr code.  Scan that code to make your song requests.  You will need to know the actual song title and artist’s name when filling out the form. 

  • And speaking of Prom,Seniors,  All senior English teachers have posted a google form on their google classroom page.  This form will allow you to nominate members for our new Prom Court.  We will have five girls and five boys that will serve as our prom court.  The top five nominated boys and top five nominated girls will comprise our 2024 Prom court.  Once the court has been named on March 22nd, the king and queen will be chosen at prom.  All court members will be crowned at the dance.

  • Would you like to help out our community & donate blood? Did you know that every 2 seconds, someone needs blood? In fact, 62% of the US population is eligible to donate blood, but only about 3% of them donate. Our school is having a blood drive on Thursday, February 29th. To donate blood, students must be 16 yrs old or older. Students can stop by Mrs. Nix’s classroom (Room 3105) to get more information & to register. Students must pre-register to donate. Faculty can email Mrs. Nix to register.

  • Attention Juniors and Seniors, Do you like to swim? Are you an outdoors person? The Boys and Girls Club of North Louisiana needs lifeguards this summer. Please schedule a time to meet with Mr. Grant in Student Services to discuss your application. Pay is competitive and positions are limited.

  • The cornhole tournament was a huge success in the fall so we want to do it again! We have $900 in Visa gift cards to give away that were donated by Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union for our tournament that is coming up during lunch in March!!! So we are going to double our number of winners to spread the wealth. We will have a Freshman/Sophomore division as well as a Junior/Senior division. Prizes will be given to the Champion teams and the runners up for each category on each lunch shift. So find a teammate and sign up  ASAP before all the spots are gone! The sign up sheet can be found on the Student Life Google Classroom page. Just type in your names. Brackets will be randomly generated just before the tournament.
